REMO Project

The REMO Project, promoted by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), seeks to develop pioneering technology for detecting seismicity at sea with a precision level far superior to the tools currently available to seismologists. This technology will help to better study seismic events such as earthquakes and tsunamis.

Over the three-year duration of the research project, members of the consortium made up by Repsol, Aragón Photonics Labs, the University of Alcalá, and the Institute of Marine Sciences of the CSIC, will design a measurement system consisting of an interrogator connected to an underwater fiber optic cable that acts as a linear array of thousands of sensors. For high-resolution, real-time data acquisition monitoring and analysis, the partners will use advanced computer systems and will design artificial intelligence algorithms for the analysis.

Due to its innovative nature, the REMO Project has been selected in the R&D&I Projects in Public-Private Collaboration Program of the Spanish Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan funded by Next Generation EU.
